Anxiety UK Membership Review

In today’s post I am going to be talking about membership with Anxiety UK.  I have suffered with anxiety since I was 3 years old; at some points it has been very well managed, and at other times (like the past few months) it has been out of control.  I will talk more about my anxiety in a future post.  Since I started blogging, I have noticed that lots of other bloggers also suffer from anxiety and so I thought that this post might be able to help and inform other people in a similar situation to mine.

My Mum was recently looking online for some kind of support for my anxiety and she came across the Anxiety UK website.  They write on their website that “Anxiety UK was established to promote the relief and rehabilitation of persons suffering from agoraphobia and associated anxiety disorders, phobias and conditions”.

There are a number of different membership options: individual, student, family or lifetime, so you can choose the option that works best for you.  I decided to go for an individual membership which costs £30 a year.

One of the main things that encouraged me to become a member of Anxiety UK is that you get a “one year’s free subscription to Headspace (worth approx. £72)”.  Headspace is a meditation and mindfulness site.  It offers meditations for a number of different factors, such as stress relief or to aid sleep.  You can try it for free here before you decide to subscribe.  I kept meaning to take 10 minutes to practise breathing techniques but I kept putting it off because I didn’t really know what to do.  Having access to Headspace which provides guided meditation gave me the motivation to take this time and practise being calm.

The benefits of becoming an individual member of Anxiety UK can be found here, and include access to reduced cost therapies, subscription to Anxious Times magazine and access to the Anxiety UK Member’s area and free online resources, totalling a value of more than £90 annually.

If nothing else, membership to Anxiety UK (or even just looking on the website!) has comforted me and made me realise that I am not the only person that is struggling, and that there are things you can do (such as taking time to meditate) to help improve your anxiety.

  4. I find guided meditation can be so helpful and calming, especially when you’re trying to sleep and feeling too anxious to do so. It might not be up your street (as it’s not for everyone) but I found some ASMR videos have really helped me when I’m feeling anxious, I feel so zen after watching them, and I usually pop one on if I’m trying to drift off to sleep too. Worth looking into if you think it could be helpful for you 🙂 good luck, and I’m happy for you that you’ve found Anxiety UK!

  5. This is so good. Anxiety is a serious thing so I’m happy you’re coping and dealing with it in this way. Never heard of this so it’s very enlightening to read about it. I’ve had the headspace app before and it’s pretty soothing so I can relate there. Overall I’m glad you’re getting through better with your anxiety.

  7. I’m so glad to hear you’ve found something to manage your anxiety. I found mindfulness has really helped my anxiety which I’ve been struggling with since I was little but has been out of control over the last couple of years
